The era of a 5-part Saga where I hopefully will not burn out in the process

1/24/22: Researching Design Heroes

The beginning of this arduous semester starts with narrowing our design inspiration to two “heroes.” While it shouldn’t be so dramatic as it is, the choice may make or break the amount of motivation I can keep feeding myself throughout this project.

Thankfully, I had already compiled a list of my favorite designers, and a few more deep-web Behance searches helped me add just a few more to the list:

My very long list :D

After emailing Brett, he mentioned one thing I should consider: the amount of content the internet can provide, be it interviews or videos. This did put things in consideration, as I not only needed enough content for the video and book, but also I should be able to understand it.

Class Critique

Feedback:

  • The general consensus was that there is simply “too much” compositionally speaking, and not a proper metaphor being conveyed
  • Moreover, there wasn’t enough of my own self expression being conveyed with this poster. I think one thing I’m struggling with at the moment is the balance between myself and my design hero, as I’m confused with how to approach it. Is it a marketing approach, an inspirational push, or pure creative expression?
  • While I don’t feel particularly defeated, I am a little stressed as to how I can continue to this project with the style I have now.

2/9/22: Building a better foundation

Refined iteration

2/10/22 Critique

Feedback:

  • Again, many reactions and responses but not a large number of hard feedback: while there was more positive reception I still have some work that needs to be done with this poster.

2/12/22:

Feedback from Brett:

  • Tighten that type so the paragraph is more analogous to the height of the poster itself
  • How can you isolate bits of the timeline more so that it’s more cohesive?
  • Rearrange the red icon drawings a little, it’s too rigid and symmetrical for now
  • Make the glasses larger maybe?

2/15/22:

  • Italicize publications
  • Shift the rag slightly for the notion comment
